These regulations, particularly REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals), are subject to continuous substance expansions. Currently, all other listed substances in W+P products are below the limit exceedances.
The REACH and RoHS statements list the W+P series, that are affected by a REACH lead exceedance of 0.1% or the use of a RoHS exemption 6a (max. 0.35%) or 6c (max. 4%).
In 2021, the RoHS exemptions 6a and 6c actually expired. The EU Commission has not yet decided on the applications, submitted by the industry for further exemption permissions.
In principle, if a rejection occurs, there would still be a one-year trade usage period. Nevertheless, due to the pending procedure, W+P PRODUCTS initiated the technical implementation of lead-free (max. 0.1%) series in 2021. LF 21 = LEAD FREE 21. The following series currently have these LF21 options available:
– 107 D-Sub connectors – 111 D-Sub connectors – 153 + 153 C precision pin headers, RM 2.54mm – 154 precision pin headers, RM 2.54mm – 1533 SMT precision pin headers, RM 2.54mm Other series can be checked upon request.
In the mentioned series, the relevant components, such as contacts, contact carrier sleeves, or screw components, can comply with the maximum limit of 0.1% lead by changing the base material.
Why should I use a LF21 series?
• No SCIP listing required.
• No special entries needed for the increasingly frequent environmental inquiries from end customers or environmental service providers.
• No need to monitor publications from the EU Commission.
• No redesign necessary for long-term projects, if the EU Commission eventually does not extend the exemptions.
